Excalibur Kicks Off 2025 Season at Home: Soccer, Rugby Recaps
The 2024–25 OUA season kicked off this past weekend with a full slate of Excalibur home openers. The weekend showcased strong performances, rookie debuts, and plenty of reasons for optimism as Trent's student-athletes begin their campaigns.
Saturday, August 30
Women's Soccer vs. Ottawa Gee Gee's
The Excalibur women's soccer team opened their season Friday evening against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Rookie goalkeeper Kymora Chung (#1, Markham) stood tall in her first OUA appearance, facing down one of the strongest offensive units in the league. Despite a 3-0 final, the Excalibur showed composure and grit that will serve them well as the season continues.
Men's Soccer vs. Nipissing Lakers
Trent men's soccer gave fans a thrilling start to the year with a 1-0 win over Nipissing in their home opener. Warren Chambers (#11, Scarborough) netted the lone goal of the match, assisted by Michael Mouratidis (#21, Toronto), while veteran goalkeeper Owen Schultz recorded a clean sheet.
Women's Rugby vs. Western Mustangs
Excalibur women's rugby faced a tough Western Mustangs squad in their first outing of the year. The scoreboard favored the visitors, but the night was marked by the debut of several first-year athletes making their mark in green and white. Emma Levesque, Mya O'Connor, and Emilie Ruales all earned their first career starts, showcasing a strong foundation being built for the program. The team now turns their focus to next weekend, travelling to face the Brock Badgers on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m.

Sunday, August 31
Women's Soccer vs. TMU Bold
The Excalibur women's soccer team showed resilience in their 4-2 battle with TMU on Sunday. After a first half that saw the Bold jump ahead, Trent reorganized and fought back with a pair of second-half goals. Melanie Oleschuk (#5, Kingston) and Emma Da Silva (#12, Whitby) both found the back of the net, unassisted, while keeper Sierra Irving provided stability in net. Despite the loss, the second-half push proved the Excalibur's ability to adapt and respond. The team looks to carry that momentum into their next home match on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m. vs. Ontario Tech.
Men's Soccer vs. TMU Bold
Closing out the weekend, the Excalibur men's soccer team battled the TMU Bold. John Moncada (#22, Scarborough) opened the scoring, quickly following up with his second goal of the half thanks to an assist from Ariyo Akinlolu (#4, Ottawa). With a 2-1 lead at halftime, the Excalibur energized the home crowd and proved their offensive potential. Despite a strong start, TMU's attack surged in the second half, handing Trent a 5-2 loss.
The team is back in action at home Saturday, September 6 at 3:15 p.m. against Ontario Tech.
