Trent Excalibur rower Tess Friar has added international medals to her growing list of accomplishments, capturing both a silver and a bronze at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay earlier this month.

Friar, a third-year Nursing student from Tweed, represented Canada alongside her rowing partner, Jalyn Mowry of the Peterborough Rowing Club (PRC). The duo earned a bronze medal in the women's double final before Friar went on to help power Canada's women's eight crew to a silver medal finish.

A two-time OUA champion with the Excalibur, Friar launched her rowing journey through the Excalibur novice program in her first year at Trent. Since then, she has established herself as a standout on the water, balancing the demands of her Nursing studies with high-performance training and competition.

"Medaling on the international stage has been an incredible experience, and I'm grateful for the support and energy I have gotten being a part of such a dedicated team at Trent. Both communities have pushed me to grow as an athlete and a student, and I'm proud to represent them," said Friar.

Friar and Mowry began rowing together in 2023 with the Peterborough Rowing Club, quickly finding success on the water. Their partnership led to a standout summer season in 2024, including a Henley Regatta gold medal in the PRC quad, and ultimately their selection to represent Canada on the Pan Am stage.
