The Trent University Excalibur varsity rowing team returned home from Head of the Rideau yesterday in Ottawa, Sunday September 24th, with medals in seven different categories!

Club captain, Dan Bullock, helped open up the floodgates early in the day for Trent Rowing winning the varsity men’s single.

Soon after, Sean Matiyek and Shane Willis, the junior varsity double, topped the field in their first race as Excalibur since rowing up through the novice program.

Bullock and his double partner James Dyer then captured gold in the varsity heavy men’s doubles, while our lightweight men’s programs consisting of double Dayton Kelly and Wes Penney, along with their light four including Matt Dupuis, Jordan Hamilton, and cox Hailey Guertin, destroyed the field.

For the women, the Excalibur parade to the top of the podium continued.

Lightweight double, Megan Benn and Kristi Smith, added another gold.  While, heavyweight women’s eight, consisting of Elisabeth Trickey, Emma Scheel, Paige Burns, Jess Lenters, Hannah Curtis, Lauren Temperly, Megan Benn, Lexi Armstrong, and cox Sam Gellar, celebrated their victory in style.

Other notable finishes include second place finishes in the heavyweight men’s four, heavyweight women’s four, and junior varsity lightweight double.

Six days until Head of the Trent. Come cheer us on!
