THE TRENT EXCALIBUR MEN’S AND WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAMS WRAP UP THE REGULAR SEASON WITH GAMES AGAINST MCMASTER AND QUEEN’S.

Summary

The Trent Excalibur Men’s and Women’s volleyball teams wrapped up the regular season over the weekend, with a visit to Steeltown on Friday to take on the McMaster Marauders, before returning home to host the Queen’s Gaels. On Sunday, the Trent Excalibur Men’s and Women’s volleyball teams recognized fourth year players at the final home game of the season. On the Women’s side, the Excalibur recognized fourth year players Vanessa Aune, Austin Condie, Jessica McDougall, and fifth year Monique Sheehan. The Excalibur Men’s program recognized fourth year players Raymond Le, Jesse Hayer, Stewart Williamsson, Nathan Koopman, and Jacob Bothen for their contributions to the Excalibur volleyball program. The Excalibur also recognized fifth year player Griffin Williams for his dedication to the program and the Peterborough community.

 

Up first both games were the Women’s matches. The Excalibur battled hard against McMaster but were not able to pull out the victory. On Sunday the Excalibur hosted the Queen’s Gaels in the final game of the regular season, in front of a packed house at the Trent Athletics Centre. The Excalibur pushed the Gaels to five sets, taking the second and fourth set before losing a close fifth set. Trent Excalibur first year setter Heidi Hayes capped off an impressive rookie season with 48 assists and 8 digs over the weekend. First year Outside Hitter Genna Saunders added 19 kills and 24 digs to her impressive season totals over the weekend.

 

On the Men’s side, the Excalibur closed out the regular season with a valiant effort against McMaster and Queen’s, but were not able to secure a victory over the weekend. At home in front of a packed house, the Excalibur stormed out of the gate early, taking the first set 25-18 against the Gaels. The Excalibur pushed the Gaels in a close second set, dropping the set by a score of 25-22, the Gaels were eventually able to hold off the charging Excalibur and take the match 3-1. Third year setter Tom Martin recorded 31 assists over the two matches.
